ANKARA (Interstat) — Metehan Mimaroğlu scored the only goal Sunday as Gençlerbirliği SK defeated Kocaelispor 1-0 at Eryaman Stadyumu in the Süper Lig season opener for both clubs.

Mimaroğlu, a forward, found the net with help from an assist by defender Ousmane Dıabate to put the home side ahead. Substitute Karol Linetty also recorded an assist on the play. Linetty received a yellow card in first-half stoppage time at the 45-plus-1 minute mark, while Dıabate was booked in the 57th minute.

Gençlerbirliği improved to 1-0-0 in both the competition and across all competitions. Kocaelispor dropped to 0-1-0 in league play and overall.

The match marked the start of the Turkish top-flight season for both teams, who will look to build on their respective results in the coming weeks. Kocaelispor will aim to rebound from the shutout loss, while Gençlerbirliği will seek to maintain its winning start.
