ANKARA, Turkiye (Interstat) — Gençlerbirliği SK hosts Kocaelispor on Sunday, April 26, in a Süper Lig matchup between two teams desperate to climb out of the lower half of the table.

Both sides enter the game at Eryaman Stadium on the back of draws last weekend, though the results did little to ease their respective concerns. Gençlerbirliği played Galatasaray to a 2-1 loss on April 18, while Kocaelispor earned a 1-1 home draw against Goztepe the same day.

Kocaelispor’s form has been erratic. Over its past 10 matches, the visiting side has managed only two wins — a 3-0 victory at Gaziantep FK on Feb. 15 and a 1-0 win at Eyupspor on March 9 — along with three draws and five losses. The club was routed 5-0 at Alanyaspor on March 18 and lost 2-1 to Konyaspor on March 14. More recently, Kocaelispor has shown defensive resilience, holding Galatasaray to a 1-1 draw on April 12 and playing Rams Başakşehir FK to a scoreless stalemate on April 6. But scoring remains a challenge: Kocaelispor has been shut out in six of its previous 10 outings.

Gençlerbirliği’s record is equally troubling. The home side has lost eight of its last 10 fixtures, with only one win — a 2-1 victory over Gaziantep FK on Feb. 1 — and one draw, a 0-0 result at Alanyaspor on March 9. It has been blanked in five of those matches and has conceded multiple goals in six. The club’s most recent loss came against Galatasaray, and before that it fell 3-0 at Rams Başakşehir, 2-0 at Goztepe, and 1-0 at Konyaspor. Home form has provided little comfort: Gençlerbirliği has lost four straight at Eryaman Stadium since a 1-0 win over Adana Demirspor in January.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 1-1 draw, reflecting the offensive struggles of both sides. Kocaelispor averages less than a goal per game this season, while Gençlerbirliği’s attack has been even more anemic at home. Defensively, both teams have shown occasional stability but have been susceptible to lapses.

Kickoff is set for Sunday at 6 p.m. local time. With neither side in strong form, the match is likely to be tight, and a draw would leave both still looking for answers as the season winds down.
