ARMENIAN PREMIER LEAGUE ROUNDUP: ALASHKERT TOPS ARARAT IN LEAGUE ACTION
ARMAVIR, Armenia (Interstat) — Alashkert solidified its position in the Armenian Premier League with a 2-0 victory over crosstown rival Ararat on Tuesday at Armavir City Stadium.
The result, driven by second-half goals from Robert Hakobyan and Caio Henrique, extended Alashkert’s strong domestic campaign while deepening the woes of a struggling Ararat side.
The match was a stark reversal of recent form in the head-to-head series. Just three days prior, on April 11, Ararat had pushed Alashkert to the limit in a narrow 3-2 defeat. Earlier in the season, on March 15, Ararat had routed Alashkert 4-0. This time, however, Alashkert controlled proceedings from the outset, turning statistical projections of a likely win into a comfortable reality.
The first half saw Alashkert dominate possession and create the more dangerous chances, but the teams entered halftime locked in a scoreless draw. The breakthrough finally came in the 44th minute when forward Robert Hakobyan found the net, giving the hosts a lead they would not relinquish.
Alashkert continued to press in the second half, effectively managing the game and limiting Ararat’s opportunities. The insurance goal arrived in the 71st minute, as Brazilian midfielder Caio Henrique scored to secure the three points for the home side. Ararat, which has found goals hard to come by this season, was unable to mount a serious comeback, failing to register a score.
The victory improves Alashkert’s league record to 10 wins, 6 losses and 3 draws, keeping the club in the upper tier of the league table. Across all competitions this season, Alashkert now stands at 12 wins, 8 losses and 3 draws. The performance validated the pre-match analytics from Interstat, whose game simulator had projected a 1-0 Alashkert win and whose ELO rating system gave Alashkert a 92.8 percent probability of victory.
For Ararat, the loss marks another low point in a difficult season. The club’s league record fell to 1 win, 16 losses and 3 draws, a standing that anchors them at the bottom of the league. Their overall record across all tournaments worsened to 3 wins, 20 losses and 3 draws. The team has now lost four consecutive matches since its last victory on March 7.
The match was the second of three scheduled meetings between the two Yerevan-based clubs this month, with the previous encounter ending in Alashkert’s 3-2 favor.
Alashkert will look to build on this momentum when it travels to face Urartu in league play on Sunday. Ararat, seeking to halt its skid, will host Pyunik on Saturday.
