Carrarese vs Cesena

CARRARA, Italy (Interstat) — A pair of Serie B clubs mired in mid-table inconsistency meet Friday when Carrarese hosts Cesena at Stadio dei Marmi.

Both teams enter the match on the heels of 3-0 defeats. Carrarese (15-12-14) lost at Frosinone on April 25, while Cesena (12-13-16) fell 1-0 at home to Sampdoria the same day. The loss extended Cesena’s winless run to two matches and dropped the visitors to 14th in the 20-team table.

Cesena has struggled to find the net, scoring only once in its last six matches across all competitions. The club’s lone goal in that stretch came in a 1-1 draw at Sudtirol on April 6. Before that, Cesena was blanked in consecutive matches at Palermo and Juve Stabia. The team’s last win came March 21, a 3-1 victory over Catanzaro.

Carrarese, sitting 11th, has been equally erratic. After a three-match winning streak in March — including a 3-0 shutout of Bari and a 2-0 clean sheet against Sampdoria — the Tuscans have managed one win in their last four. A 3-1 victory over Spezia on April 6 was followed by a scoreless defeat at Reggiana and a 2-2 home draw with Pescara.

Friday’s fixture pits two offenses that have struggled to produce consistently. Carrarese has scored 38 goals in 41 league matches, while Cesena has netted 40.

The match also carries implications for the final push toward the postseason. Carrarese sits six points outside the playoff places with five matches remaining. Cesena is seven points adrift of the top eight.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 1-1 draw.

Cesena will be without forward Cristian Shpendi, who is recovering from a muscle injury sustained in the loss to Sampdoria. Midfielder Riccardo Chiarello returns from a one-match suspension for Carrarese.

Carrarese next plays at Virtus Entella on May 8.
