Late Red Card Mars Stalemate in Berlin Derby

BERLIN (Interstat) — Union Berlin and Saint Pauli played to a 1-1 draw in a Bundesliga match Sunday at Stadion An der Alten Försterei.

Saint Pauli substitute Mathias Pereira opened the scoring in the 25th minute. Union Berlin forward Andrej Ilić equalized in the 52nd. The match turned chaotic late when Saint Pauli’s Jackson Irvine, who assisted on the opening goal, received a yellow card in the 85th minute and a subsequent red card in the third minute of stoppage time.

The result left both clubs with identical records in league play. The draw defied pre-match projections that heavily favored a Union Berlin victory.
