SAN MARCOS, Guatemala (April 1, 2026) (Interstat) — Marquense opened its Liga Nacional season with a 1-0 victory over Xelaju on Wednesday at Estadio Marquesa de la Ensenada. The lone goal came deep into first-half stoppage time, with Diego Casas scoring in the 45th+2 minute to break a scoreless deadlock. The result defied pre-match projections, as statistical models had favored Xelaju and predicted a draw. With the win, Marquense begins its campaign with a perfect record, while Xelaju starts with a loss in domestic play. Both teams’ early season form mirrored their overall records across all competitions.
