Marquense vs Xelaju
Clásico del Occidente Set for Wednesday as Marquense Hosts Xelajú
SAN MARCOS, Guatemala (Interstat) — A pivotal Liga Nacional clash is set for Wednesday when Marquense hosts rival Xelajú MC in the Clásico del Occidente at Estadio Marquesa de la Ensenada.
The match, scheduled for April 1, 2026, features two sides entering with contrasting recent form. Marquense (8-7-10) arrives with momentum from a 1-0 home victory over league giant Comunicaciones on Sunday. Xelajú (9-9-7), meanwhile, is looking to rebound after a 1-1 home draw with Guastatoya last Saturday snapped a two-game winning streak.
The head-to-head history favors the visiting Super Chivos. Xelajú has won two of the last three meetings, including a decisive 4-2 victory when these teams last met on Feb. 15. Marquense’s lone win in that span was a 1-0 home result on Nov. 5, 2025.
Xelajú’s attack has been potent, netting three goals in three of its last five matches, including wins over Comunicaciones and Municipal. However, consistency has been an issue, with a loss to Xinabajul and a draw with Guastatoya in recent weeks.
Marquense has found a more rugged identity, grinding out results in low-scoring affairs. Its victory over Comunicaciones was its third 1-0 win in the last six matches. Defense will be tested against Xelajú’s offense, which put four past them in February.
The Interstat game simulator projects a 1-1 draw, a result that would extend Xelajú’s current unbeaten run to four matches but likely leave both teams wanting more in the tight Liga Nacional table.
For Xelajú, this match kicks off a busy April that includes a rematch with Cobán Imperial on April 5 and fixtures against Mixco and Achuapa. Marquense will look to use a positive result as a springboard for the second half of the season.
Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. local time. The match will be broadcast nationally on Tigo Sports.
