Irapuato vs Atlante
IRAPUATO, Mexico (Interstat) — Atlante delivered a stunning and decisive road performance Wednesday night, overwhelming Irapuato 5-0 in a Liga de Expansión MX match that defied all pregame projections.
The visitors’ victory, forged almost entirely by substitutes in the second half, came at Estadio Sergio León Chávez and handed Irapuato a sobering defeat to open the season.
Pre-match analytics heavily favored the home side. Interstat’s game simulator had projected a 1-1 draw, and its ELO rating system gave Irapuato a 66.7 percent probability of victory. Atlante rendered those figures meaningless with a relentless offensive display after halftime.
The match was physical and disjointed in the first half, with four yellow cards issued before the break. Atlante’s Nico Carrera, Jassiel Ruiz Flores and Alan Rodríguez were booked, along with Irapuato’s Jose Salazar. The scoreless deadlock, however, would not survive the interval.
Atlante’s bench proved to be the difference. Luis Puente, entering as a substitute, broke the tension in the 54th minute with the opening goal. The floodgates then opened. Samuel González made it 2-0 in the 67th minute, and Edgar Jiménez added a third just five minutes later in the 72nd minute.
The final blows were delivered by Hardy Meza, who authored a quick brace late in the match. He found the net in the 89th minute and then again in the third minute of second-half stoppage time to complete the rout.
Meza’s two-goal performance led all players, while Puente, González and Jiménez each contributed a goal from off the bench. The assist chart was distributed among Carrera, Salazar, Rodríguez and Ruiz Flores, each credited with one.
The result immediately reshapes the early outlook for both clubs in the Mexican second division. Atlante begins its Liga de Expansión MX campaign with a win, moving its record to 1-0, while Irapuato starts 0-1. The records across all competitions are identical.
For Atlante, the victory signals a potent attack and deep squad capable of changing a game through substitutions. For Irapuato, the comprehensive loss at home, particularly after such strong predictive metrics, raises immediate questions as the season gets underway.
The teams will look to build on or rebound from this result when the league schedule continues next week.
