Sakaryaspor vs Sariyer

SAKARYA, Turkiye (Interstat) — In a match defined more by its chaotic finish than any attacking quality, Sakaryaspor and Sariyer played to a scoreless draw Sunday in a 1. Lig fixture at Yeni Sakarya Atatürk Stadyumu.

The result, which saw neither side manage a goal, did little to aid either club’s aspirations in the Turkish second division. Sariyer, the visiting side, now holds a season record of 10 wins, 13 losses and five draws in league play. The home side, Sakaryaspor, moved to seven wins, 17 losses and six draws.

The match defied the pregame projections from Interstat, whose game simulator had predicted a 1-1 draw and whose ELO rating system gave Sariyer a narrow 50.70 percent probability of victory. Instead, the contest was a stalemate, with both teams struggling to create clear chances and the narrative shifting dramatically to discipline in a frantic final sequence.

The game’s first half offered little in the way of goalmouth action but did see the first flash of tension when defender Serkan Terzi of Sakaryaspor was shown a yellow card in the 38th minute. The second caution did not arrive until the 69th minute, when Sakaryaspor substitute Metehan Mert was booked.

However, the match erupted into controversy deep into second-half stoppage time. In a span of just three minutes from the 90+5 to the 90+7 mark, the referee issued five yellow cards and one decisive red.

The sequence began at 90+5, with simultaneous bookings for Sakaryaspor defender Salih Dursun and substitute Ömer Bayram. A minute later, Sariyer substitute Malaly Dembélé joined them in the book. The climax came at 90+7, when Sariyer midfielder Josip Vuković was shown a yellow card, followed immediately by a second yellow, resulting in his ejection from the match.

The dismissal left Sariyer to see out the final moments with 10 men, but Sakaryaspor could not capitalize on the numerical advantage before the final whistle.

The draw continues a middling run of form for Sariyer, which was coming off a commanding 5-0 victory over Adana Demirspor on Feb. 23 but had recorded only one win in its five previous matches before that. For Sakaryaspor, the point halts a three-match losing streak across all competitions, though the club has now won just once in its last nine outings.

Historically, Sakaryaspor held a slight mental edge, having defeated Sariyer 2-1 in the reverse fixture on Oct. 5, 2025.

Looking ahead, Sariyer will return home to host Umraniyespor on Friday, March 6. Sakaryaspor also plays next on March 6, welcoming Adana Demirspor to Sakarya.
