SAINT-OUEN, France (Interstat) — Red Star opened its Ligue 2 season with a 4-3 victory over Bastia in a frenetic match at Stade Bauer on Saturday.

The visitors struck first through substitute Juan Guevara in the seventh minute, but Red Star midfielder Damien Durand dominated the response. He equalized eight minutes later before Bastia substitute Félix Tomi restored the lead in the 34th. Red Star defender Pierre Lemonnier leveled three minutes later, and Durand scored twice more before halftime to complete a hat trick and give the hosts a 4-2 lead.

Hacéne Benali pulled one back for Bastia in the 86th minute, but Red Star held on. The result defied a pregame projection of a 1-1 draw. Yellow cards were issued to Bastia’s Giovanni Haag and Florian Bohnert and Red Star’s Benali.
