Modena vs Spezia

MODENA, Italy (Interstat) — Manuel De Luca and Ettore Gliozzi each scored twice in a stunning first-half blitz, propelling Modena to a commanding 3-0 victory over Spezia in Serie B play Friday afternoon at Stadio Alberto Braglia.

The match, which defied a pregame projection of a 1-1 draw by Interstat, was effectively decided in a chaotic six-minute span late in the first half. Modena’s attack, which had been held in check in a scoreless draw the previous weekend, exploded with ruthless efficiency.

The breakthrough came in the 29th minute. Forward Manuel De Luca found space in the area and fired home to give the hosts a lead they would not relinquish. Before Spezia could regroup, De Luca struck again just moments later, doubling the advantage and sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

The visiting defense was in disarray, and Modena capitalized once more before the halftime whistle. In the 55th minute, forward Ettore Gliozzi got on the scoresheet, putting the match firmly out of reach with Modena’s third goal. Gliozzi wasn’t finished, adding a second goal of his own just four minutes later in the 59th minute to complete the scoring.

The offensive outburst was aided significantly by the contributions of Modena’s substitutes. Alessandro Bellemo, who entered the match in the second half, was credited with two assists on the afternoon, while fellow substitute Pietro Beruatto also provided two assists. Their introductions provided immediate creative impetus to a dominant performance.

The lopsided affair saw discipline unravel for Spezia. Bellemo was shown a yellow card in the 51st minute, followed by another for Beruatto just two minutes later in the 53rd minute, reflecting the visitors’ frustration.

With the win, Modena improved its Serie B record to 11 wins, five losses and six draws, solidifying its position in the upper tier of the league table. Across all competitions, Modena now stands at 11 wins, seven losses and seven draws. The victory also served as a measure of revenge for a prior defeat, as Modena had lost to Monza in late December.

Spezia, meanwhile, saw its struggles deepen. The club’s record in Italy’s second division fell to six wins, 12 losses and six draws following the comprehensive defeat. Their form across all competitions dipped to 10 wins, 16 losses and seven draws. The loss continues a pattern of inconsistency for Spezia, which had followed a 4-2 victory over Monza on March 7 with this deflating performance.

The result marked Modena’s second win over Spezia this season, having also secured a 2-0 victory in the reverse fixture on Dec. 13. Interstat’s ELO rating system had given Modena a 68 percent probability to win, a forecast that proved conservative given the one-sided nature of the contest.

Modena will look to carry this momentum into a midweek fixture, traveling to face Catanzaro on Tuesday, March 17. Spezia faces a quick and daunting turnaround, scheduled to host AC Milan in a Serie A clash on Saturday, March 14, followed by a Serie B match against Empoli FC on Tuesday, March 17.
