LISBON (Interstat) — Real Madrid W opened its Champions League campaign with a narrow 1-0 road victory over Sport Lisboa e Benfica on Tuesday.

The match’s lone goal came in the 50th minute from substitute Vinícius Júnior, who scored shortly after entering the game. He was assisted by midfielder Heorhii Sudakov. Vinícius Júnior received a yellow card for his goal celebration.

The result defied a pregame projection from Interstat, whose simulator had forecast a 1-1 draw. Its ELO rating system, however, heavily favored the visitors.

The win at Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica gives Real Madrid W a winning start in European play this season, while Benfica begins with a defeat.
