Asteras Tripolis vs Olympiakos SFP
Preview: Olympiakos SFP Visits Asteras Tripolis in Greek Super League Clash
TRIPOLIS, Greece (Interstat) — League leader Olympiakos SFP aims to extend its recent dominance over struggling Asteras Tripolis when the Greek Super League 1 sides meet Wednesday.
The match at Tripoli’s Theodoros Kolokotronis Stadium pits a title contender against a club mired in a poor run of form. Olympiakos (1-1-0 in its last two league matches) sits atop the table and has won both meetings with Asteras this season, a 2-0 home victory in August and a 2-1 away win in September.
Asteras Tripolis (0-0-2 in its last two) is desperate for points after a dismal stretch. It has lost four of its last five domestic matches, including a 3-1 defeat at APO Levadeiakos on Sunday. Its defense has been particularly leaky, conceding three or more goals in three of those five losses.
Olympiakos arrives following a 1-1 draw with rival AEK Athens on Sunday, which snapped a two-game league winning streak. Prior to that, it earned a 1-0 victory over Volos NFC. Its form has been inconsistent since mid-December, mixing heavy wins with unexpected draws and a 2-0 loss to PAOK.
The statistical service Interstat projects a 2-0 victory for the visiting Piraeus giants.
For Olympiakos, the match is a chance to solidify its standing before a crucial Feb. 8 showdown with second-place PAOK. Asteras, hovering near the relegation zone, seeks a desperately needed positive result before hosting Volos NFC on Saturday.
Injury reports for both clubs were not immediately available Wednesday morning.
