Sitra vs Al Riffa
MANAMA, Bahrain (Interstat) — Al Riffa secured a commanding 3-1 victory over Sitra on Wednesday afternoon in Bahrain Premier League play, using a quick second-half scoring burst to solidify its position near the top of the table.
The match at Madinat ’Isa Stadium saw the visiting side rebound decisively from a weekend defeat. Al Riffa, which fell 2-1 to Al Hidd last Saturday, now holds a league record of nine wins, three losses and three draws. Sitra, coming off a 3-1 win over Khalidiya, moves to an even 4-4-4 in league competition.
The game began with patient buildup from both sides before Al Riffa broke through in the 26th minute. Samuel Toscas found space in the penalty area and connected with a cross to power a header past the Sitra goalkeeper, giving the visitors an early lead they would carry into halftime.
The second half unfolded with Sitra applying increased pressure in search of an equalizer. Their efforts were rewarded in the 68th minute when Ali Madan finished a chance from the left side, leveling the score and energizing the home supporters.
The parity was short-lived. Al Riffa responded with immediate force, retaking the lead just two minutes later. In the 70th minute, Gabryel struck from a similar left-sided position, restoring Al Riffa’s advantage and shifting momentum irrevocably.
Sitra pushed numbers forward in the dying stages of regulation and through stoppage time, but Al Riffa sealed the result with a final counterattack. In the fifth minute of added time, Carlos Vázquez rose to meet a cross and headed home Al Riffa’s third goal, extinguishing any remaining hope for a Sitra comeback.
The result continues a dominant trend for Al Riffa in the recent series between the clubs, following a 3-0 win in the reverse fixture last September. The victory also defied a key pregame projection from Interstat, whose ELO rating system had given Sitra a 55.7 percent probability to win. The final score, however, aligned more closely with the organization’s game simulator, which had predicted a 2-1 Al Riffa victory.
In broader competition, Al Riffa’s overall record across all tournaments improves to 10 wins, three losses and four draws. Sitra’s combined record stands at four wins, four losses and five draws.
Al Riffa will look to build on this performance when it hosts Al Hidd in its next Premier League fixture on Feb. 7. Sitra turns its focus to a match against Al Ettifaq Club on Feb. 3 before resuming league play at Al Najma on Feb. 14.
