GENOVA, Italy (Interstat) — Sampdoria defeated Padova 1-0 in a Serie B match Saturday at Stadio Comunale Luigi Ferraris.

Forward Matteo Brunori scored the game’s only goal in the second half. The play was built by midfielders Matteo Ricci and Liam Henderson, with substitute Lorenzo Villa providing the final assist.

The match was a physical contest, with three yellow cards issued in a six-minute span early in the first half. Villa, Ricci and Henderson were each booked between the 19th and 25th minutes.

The result improved Sampdoria’s league record to 4-10-5 this season, while Padova fell to 6-6-7. The outcome defied a pregame projection that favored the visitors.
