Correcaminos UAT vs Cancun

CIUDAD VICTORIA, Mexico (Interstat) — Visiting Cancun used a trio of first-half goals to secure a 3-1 victory over Correcaminos UAT in a Liga de Expansión MX match on Friday, solidifying its position in the upper tier of the league table while extending the home side’s difficult season.

The match, played before a crowd at Estadio Olímpico Ing. Marte R. Gómez, saw the visitors strike early and never relinquish control. Cancun’s opening goal came in the seventh minute, with substitute José Rodríguez finishing a play to give his team an immediate advantage.

Correcaminos UAT struggled to find a response, and Cancun doubled its lead in the 39th minute through another substitute, Christopher Trejo. The first-half onslaught was capped just before the break, in the 49th minute, when substitute Karel Campos found the net to give Cancun a commanding 3-0 lead heading into halftime.

The home side showed more fight after the interval and managed to pull a goal back in the 72nd minute. Forward Diego Pineda scored for Correcaminos UAT, assisted by substitute Rodrigo Reyes, to break the shutout. However, any momentum was quickly stifled by disciplinary issues.

The match grew increasingly fractious, with three yellow cards issued in the first half. The situation escalated in the second half when Cancun midfielder Vicente Torres, who had received a yellow card in the 31st minute, was shown a second yellow and ejected from the match in the 81st minute. Despite playing a man down for the final minutes, Cancun comfortably saw out the result.

The victory improves Cancun’s record in the Liga de Expansión MX to 16 wins, nine losses and six draws this season. The club’s form has been inconsistent in recent weeks, with this win providing a positive response after a 3-2 loss to Leones Negros UdeG in its previous outing on March 22. The team’s overall record across all competitions is identical.

For Correcaminos UAT, the loss marks another setback in a challenging campaign. The club’s league record now stands at seven wins, 17 losses and eight draws. The home side was coming off a 3-0 win over Pumas Tabasco on March 29, but has found consistent results hard to maintain. Its overall record mirrors its league performance.

The result continued a recent trend of dominance for Cancun in the head-to-head series. The teams last met on Oct. 25, 2025, a match Cancun won 5-0.

Statistical analysis from Interstat had given Cancun a 61 percent probability to win the match, though its game simulator had projected a 1-1 draw. The actual outcome hewed closer to the probability model, with Cancun’s attacking depth proving decisive.

Cancun’s bench made a significant impact, with all three goalscorers – Rodríguez, Trejo and Campos – entering the match as substitutes. Assistants Rodrigo Reyes and Francisco Melendre also came off the bench for their respective teams.

Looking ahead, Cancun will prepare for a busy stretch, hosting Celaya on April 10 and Atlante on April 11 before traveling to face Leones Negros on April 19, all in Liga de Expansión MX play.

Correcaminos UAT will aim to regroup for a road test against Mineros de Zacatecas on April 12, followed by home matches against Alebrijes de Oaxaca on April 17 and Dorados on April 19.
