BG Pathum United FC vs Sukhothai

THANYA BURI, Thailand (Interstat) — Ikhsan Fandi scored two early goals to power BG Pathum United FC to a 2-1 victory over Sukhothai in Thai League 1 play on Sunday, March 1, 2026, at BG Stadium.

The Singapore international forward struck twice in the opening 23 minutes, effectively deciding the match before halftime and avenging his side’s loss in the previous meeting between the clubs. The result solidified BG Pathum United’s position near the top of the table while extending Sukhothai’s inconsistent run of form.

Fandi needed only six minutes to open the scoring, finishing an assist from midfielder Sarach Yooyen to give the hosts an immediate advantage. He doubled the lead in the 23rd minute, this time converting a pass from forward Surachat Sareepim to put BG Pathum United firmly in control.

The visiting Firebats, who had stunned BG Pathum United 3-1 in the reverse fixture last October, found a lifeline just before halftime. Substitute Chaiyaphon Otton pulled a goal back in the third minute of first-half stoppage time, assisted by fellow substitute Cláudio Rafael, to send the teams into the break at 2-1.

The second half failed to produce further goals but was punctuated by a series of yellow cards as the match grew increasingly tense. Sukhothai’s Rafael was booked in the 50th minute, followed by Sareepim of BG Pathum United two minutes later. Sukhothai’s Sarach Yooyen received a caution in the 85th minute, and teammate Thiti Thumporn was booked in the fifth minute of added time.

The victory improved BG Pathum United’s Thai League 1 record to 10 wins, four losses and four draws this season. Across all competitions, they now stand at 11 wins, four losses and five draws. The loss leaves Sukhothai with a league record of six wins, eight losses and seven draws, and an overall mark of eight wins, nine losses and seven draws.

The match defied the pregame projection from Interstat, whose game simulator had forecast a 1-1 draw. Their ELO rating system had given BG Pathum United a 58.4 percent probability of victory, which the home side justified with their fast start.

Sukhothai, which had not won in the league since a 1-1 draw with Ayutthaya United on Feb. 14, now looks ahead to a visit to Bangkok United on April 4. BG Pathum United, which rebounded from a 3-1 loss to Buriram United in its last league outing on Feb. 14, will travel to face Rayong on March 14 in its next fixture.
