Barcelona vs Athletic Bilbao

BARCELONA, Spain (Interstat) — First-place Barcelona looks to continue its dominant La Liga form when it hosts an inconsistent Athletic Bilbao at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys on Saturday.

Barcelona (8-2-0) enters the match after a commanding 4-2 road victory over Celta Vigo on Nov. 9. The Catalan side has won seven of its last eight domestic matches, with the only blemish a 2-1 loss to rival Real Madrid on Oct. 26. Their attack has been prolific, scoring three or more goals in five of those contests.

Athletic Bilbao (4-2-4) is coming off a 1-0 home win over Real Oviedo on Nov. 9. However, their form has been uneven, with a 2-3 loss to Real Sociedad and a 1-0 loss to Getafe preceding that victory. A notable bright spot was a 1-0 home win over Real Madrid on Oct. 18.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Barcelona is projected to win 2-1. The same outlet’s ELO system gives Barcelona a 99.70 percent probability of victory.

The matchup kicks off a demanding stretch for Barcelona, which travels to face Chelsea in a marquee European clash on Nov. 25. Bilbao’s schedule remains difficult, with matches against Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid looming in early December.
