Botafogo vs Sport Recife

RIO DE JANEIRO (Interstat) — Botafogo will look to continue its recent dominance over a struggling Sport Recife side when the Brazilian clubs meet Tuesday in a Carioca Série A fixture at Estádio Nilton Santos.

The home side has won the last two head-to-head meetings, both by 1-0 scores, including a victory on July 20 earlier this year. Botafogo (4-4-5) enters the match following a scoreless draw with EC Vitoria on Nov. 9, but secured a convincing 3-0 win over Vasco da Gama in its previous outing. Their form at home has been mixed, with a strong win over Vasco but a 3-0 loss to Flamengo in mid-October.

Sport Recife (0-4-9), meanwhile, is mired in a deep slump and sits near the bottom of the table. The team is coming off a demoralizing 5-1 home defeat to Flamengo on Saturday. They are winless in their last 10 matches across all competitions, a stretch featuring eight losses. Defensive issues have been paramount, as they have conceded 22 goals during that winless run.

According to a projection from Interstat, the match is expected to end in a 1-1 draw, which would snap Botafogo’s winning streak in the series but offer Sport Recife a rare positive result.

Following this match, Botafogo will host Gremio on Saturday. Sport Recife’s next fixture is at home against EC Vitoria on Nov. 23.
