NIZHNEKAMSK, Russia (Interstat) — FK Rostov defeated Neftekhimik 3-1 on Wednesday in a Russian Cup match at Stadion Neftekhimik, overcoming heavy statistical odds for a victory. Substitute Ivan Komarov scored twice in the first half, finding the net in the 18th and 36th minutes. Neftekhimik’s Islam Mashukov scored just after halftime, but FK Rostov’s Dmitrii Chistiakov answered three minutes later to secure the win. The result defied pregame projections, which heavily favored the home team. FK Rostov improved its Cup record to 3-3-1, while Neftekhimik remained winless in the competition at 0-1-1.
