Kaars Leads Saint Pauli to Comeback Win Over Heidenheim in Bundesliga Opener
HAMBURG, Germany (Interstat) — Martijn Kaars scored twice to lead Saint Pauli to a 2-1 victory over Heidenheim in the Bundesliga on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025, at Millerntor-Stadion.
The visitors played most of the match with 10 men after Heidenheim’s Eric Smith received a red card in the 45th minute. Kaars equalized in the 53rd minute and netted the winner in the 64th. Saint Pauli substitute Marvin Pieringer assisted the decisive goal before scoring Heidenheim’s lone consolation in the 73rd.
The result defied a pregame projection from Interstat, which gave Saint Pauli a 72.6% chance to win but simulated a 1-1 draw. The win gives Saint Pauli a perfect start to its league campaign.
