Udinese vs Genoa
UDINE, Italy (Interstat) — Substitute Brooke Norton-Cuffy scored the decisive goal in the 83rd minute to lift Genoa to a 2-1 comeback victory over Udinese in a Serie A match Monday at Bluenergy Stadium.
The visitors overturned a one-goal deficit in the final 25 minutes to secure a winning start to their domestic campaign, defying pregame projections that heavily favored the home side.
Udinese controlled long stretches of the match and broke through in the 65th minute. Midfielder Jesper Karlström provided the assist, setting up fellow midfielder Jakub Piotrowski for the opening goal. Karlström’s involvement was brief, however, as he received a yellow card just one minute after the goal for a foul stemming from the ensuing restart.
Trailing late, Genoa manager Alberto Gilardino’s substitutions changed the game. Ruslan Malinovskyi, introduced in the second half, leveled the score in the 77th minute with a well-taken finish, capitalizing on growing pressure from the visitors.
The turnaround was completed six minutes later. Another substitute, defender Brooke Norton-Cuffy, found the net in the 83rd minute to complete the comeback and stun the home supporters. The goal was Norton-Cuffy’s first notable contribution since entering the match.
The result marked a successful start to the Serie A season for Genoa, which begins its campaign with one win and no losses. Udinese, conversely, starts with one loss and no wins. Both teams see their overall records across all competitions move to identical marks.
The outcome contradicted statistical forecasts. Interstat’s game simulator had projected a 1-1 draw, while its ELO rating system gave Udinese a 64.5 percent probability of winning the match at home.
The match was the only Serie A fixture scheduled for Monday, Dec. 8, 2025. No further disciplinary actions beyond Karlström’s yellow card were reported.
Genoa will look to build on the road victory in its next league fixture, while Udinese seeks to rebound from a defeat that saw a potential home win slip away in the final stages.
