Cagliari vs AS Roma

ROME (Interstat) — AS Roma looks to rebound from a frustrating derby defeat when it visits relegation-threatened Cagliari in Serie A action on Sunday.

The match at Sardegna Arena is scheduled for a 3 p.m. CET (1400 GMT) kickoff.

Roma (6-2-4) enters the contest after a 1-0 home loss to Napoli last Sunday, a result that snapped a modest two-game winning streak in league play. Manager Daniele De Rossi’s squad has been inconsistent, mixing strong results like a 2-0 win at Udinese and a 3-1 victory at Cremonese with puzzling setbacks, including losses to Napoli and AC Milan, and a draw with Lecce’s under-20 side.

“The response after a defeat is always important,” De Rossi said in his pre-match press conference. “We must show more concentration and ruthlessness from the first minute in Cagliari.”

Cagliari (1-5-6), sitting just above the drop zone, is showing signs of resilience under manager Claudio Ranieri. The Islanders earned a commendable 1-1 draw at Napoli on Wednesday and previously fought to a 3-3 draw with Genoa. However, they have secured just one win in their last ten league matches—a 1-0 victory at Como on Nov. 8.

“We face a team with great quality, but we are at home and we must use our strength and our heart,” Ranieri stated. “Every point is a battle for survival.”

The fixture comes amid a congested schedule for Roma, which faces Celtic in the UEFA Europa League on Dec. 11 and a crucial Serie A match at Juventus on Dec. 20. Cagliari’s next match is a trip to Atalanta on Dec. 13.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, the most likely outcome is a narrow 1-0 victory for AS Roma.

In the corresponding fixture last season, Roma secured a 4-1 victory at the Sardegna Arena.
