CA Vi vs Manta

QUITO, Ecuador (Interstat) — Edison Hernández scored one goal and assisted on another Sunday to lead CA Vi to a 2-0 victory over Manta in a Liga Pro match at Estadio Olímpico Atahualpa.

The match, which saw two red cards in the second half, was decided by two late goals from the home side.

CA Vi broke the deadlock in the 80th minute. Hernández, a forward, drove down the left flank and sent a cross into the box for fellow forward Rafael Monti, who finished from close range to put the hosts ahead.

The victory was sealed deep into second-half stoppage time. In the sixth minute of added time, Hernández received a pass from substitute Luis Ortíz, cut inside and fired a low shot into the net to secure the three points for CA Vi. Hernández was shown a yellow card during the celebration of his goal.

The match was a physical affair, with four yellow cards issued in addition to the two dismissals. The game’s complexion changed in the 64th minute when Manta’s Marcelo Jaramillo was sent off, forcing the visitors to play a man down. Manta’s disadvantage was compounded just six minutes later when Walter Chávez also received a red card, leaving the team with only nine players for the final 20 minutes.

The result defied the pre-match projections from Interstat, whose game simulator had predicted a 1-1 draw. The same statistical service gave CA Vi a 54 percent probability of winning.

With the win, CA Vi improved its record in the Liga Pro to one win, two losses and eight draws this season. The club’s overall record across all competitions moved to 10 wins, 14 losses and 13 draws.

Manta’s struggles in the domestic league continued, as the team fell to a record of six wins, 15 losses and 11 draws. Their overall record across all competitions now stands at eight wins, 17 losses and 14 draws.

Manta’s recent form has been inconsistent. Prior to this loss, they played to a 1-1 draw with Mushuc Runa on Oct. 25 and secured a 2-0 win over Tecnico Univ on Oct. 19.

CA Vi, meanwhile, was looking to rebound from a 2-1 loss to Tecnico Univ on Oct. 26 and a 0-0 draw with Cumbaya on Oct. 22.

Looking ahead, Manta’s next match is at home against Mushuc Runa on Nov. 9. CA Vi will travel to face Tecnico Univ on the same date. The two clubs are scheduled to meet again on Nov. 23 in a return fixture.
