CAMPBELLTOWN, Australia (Interstat) — Macarthur opened its A-League season with a 3-2 victory over the Newcastle Jets on Thursday at Campbelltown Sports Stadium. The home side twice surrendered a lead before securing the win.

Mitch Duke put Macarthur ahead in the 10th minute, but the Jets leveled three minutes later through Xavier Bertoncello. Rafa Durán gave Newcastle a 23rd-minute lead. Bertoncello struck again just before halftime, and Duke netted the decisive goal in the 68th minute. The result defied pregame projections that favored the Jets. Liam Rose received a late yellow card for Macarthur.
