Preview: Macarthur Hosts Newcastle Jets in A-League Clash

SYDNEY (Interstat) — A pivotal A-League Men matchup with playoff implications is set for Thursday when Macarthur FC hosts the Newcastle Jets at Campbelltown Stadium.

The contest, scheduled for April 2, 2026, pits two sides with recent history of dramatic results against each other. Their last two meetings have been decided by a single goal, including a nine-goal thriller last December that saw Macarthur edge Newcastle 5-4. However, in their most recent encounter on Feb. 22, the Jets secured a 1-0 home victory.

Current form favors the visiting Jets. Newcastle arrives riding a wave of confidence after a 2-1 away victory over league leaders Sydney FC on March 21. That result highlighted a strong run that has seen the Jets lose just once in their last eight league matches, a stretch featuring wins over Adelaide United, Perth Glory and Western Sydney Wanderers.

Macarthur’s form has been more inconsistent. While they earned a solid 2-1 away win at Auckland FC on March 20, that victory was preceded by a 4-1 defeat at Melbourne Victory and a 3-1 home loss to the Central Coast Mariners in early March. Their defense, which conceded four goals in each of their last two matches against Western Sydney and in that wild win over Newcastle, will be tested.

According to Interstat’s game simulator, Macarthur is projected to win 2-1. The model likely factors in home-field advantage and the Bulls’ potent attack, which has shown it can score in bunches against this opponent.

For Newcastle, maintaining momentum is critical as they push for a top-six spot. For Macarthur, securing three points at home is essential to stabilize their campaign and climb the table.

Both teams will look to key attackers to make the difference. The Jets will rely on the momentum from their Sydney upset, while Macarthur will hope their home pitch inspires a repeat of their high-scoring December performance.

Following this match, Newcastle will host Adelaide United on April 11, while Macarthur will begin a road trip at Perth Glory on April 12.

Kickoff is set for 7:45 p.m. local time.
