ADELAIDE, Australia (Interstat) — Adelaide United and Macarthur FC opened their A-League seasons with a 1-1 draw at Coopers Stadium on Friday.

Adelaide midfielder Jonny Yull opened the scoring in the 37th minute, but Macarthur substitute Chris Ikonomidis leveled the match in the 57th. Ikonomidis was set up by fellow substitute Filip Kurto, who later received a yellow card in second-half stoppage time. Macarthur’s Walter Scott was also booked in the first half.

The result defied a pre-match projection from Interstat, which gave Adelaide a 59.7 percent chance to win and predicted a 2-1 victory for the hosts. Both clubs now hold identical records across all competitions this season.
