Clyde vs Stirling Albion

HAMILTON, Scotland (Interstat) — Clyde opened its Scottish League Two campaign with a commanding 3-1 victory over Stirling Albion at New Douglas Park on Saturday, defying a pre-match projection of a tight draw with a dominant first-half display.

The home side seized control early, with midfielder Marley Redfern breaking the deadlock in the 17th minute. The lead was quickly doubled just four minutes later by substitute Robbie McNab, who made an immediate impact after entering the match. McNab’s goal, however, was swiftly followed by a yellow card in the 20th minute.

Stirling Albion found a brief response in the 28th minute through forward Scott Williamson, cutting the deficit to 2-1 and offering the visitors a lifeline before halftime.

Any momentum for Stirling Albion was effectively extinguished in the second half as Clyde reasserted its authority. Redfern secured his brace and sealed the three points for the hosts in the 77th minute, finishing a move assisted by Billy Hutchingson. Hutchingson, also a substitute, was shown a yellow card two minutes prior to his assist.

The comprehensive win provided a perfect start to the league season for Clyde, which now holds a record of one win and no losses in League Two and across all competitions this season. For Stirling Albion, the defeat marks an 0-1 start in both the league and overall.

The result surpassed the pre-game simulation from Interstat, which had projected a 1-1 draw. The organization’s ELO rating system had given Clyde an 80.4 percent probability of victory, a forecast the home side justified with its performance on the pitch.

Key performances underpinned the victory. Marley Redfern’s two goals were central, while substitute Robbie McNab provided a decisive one-goal, one-assist contribution off the bench. Scott Williamson’s strike was the sole highlight for a Stirling Albion side that struggled to match Clyde’s intensity for large portions of the match.

The fixture, part of the opening day schedule for Scotland’s fourth tier, was played at New Douglas Park, the home ground of Hamilton Academical, which Clyde currently uses as its home stadium.
