Fiorentina Upsets Bologna With Late Rally in Serie A Opener

BOLOGNA, Italy (Interstat) — Fiorentina opened its Serie A season with a 2-1 comeback victory at Bologna on Sunday, defying pregame projections.

The visitors overturned a one-goal deficit with two first-half strikes. Bologna’s Giovanni Fabbian scored in the 19th minute, but Fiorentina responded quickly. Substitute Rolando Mandragora equalized in the 45th minute, assisted by Emil Holm. Just before halftime, another substitute, Roberto Piccoli, put Fiorentina ahead off a pass from Juan Miranda.

Fiorentina’s defense held through a physical second half that saw three yellow cards. Bologna’s Lewis Ferguson received a late booking in the 90th minute. The result was an upset; statistical models heavily favored Bologna to win. Fiorentina begins its campaign 1-0-0, while Bologna starts 0-1-0.
