AEK Athens Aims to Extend Dominance Over OFI in Super League Clash

ATHENS, Greece (Interstat) — AEK Athens will look to complete a rapid-fire trifecta of victories over OFI this season when the sides meet in a Greek Super League 1 match Sunday.

The fixture at AEK’s OPAP Arena is a rescheduling of a earlier postponed match, creating a unique third encounter between the clubs in a span of just seven weeks. AEK has won both prior meetings this campaign by identical 1-0 scores, first in Crete on Nov. 9 and again at home on Dec. 3.

The hosts enter in formidable form. AEK is unbeaten in its last five league matches (4-0-1), including a commanding 5-0 victory over Puebla on Dec. 14 and a 4-1 win against Atromitos on Dec. 7. Their defense has been particularly stout, conceding only once during this five-game stretch.

OFI’s form has been inconsistent. The team from Heraklion is coming off a morale-boosting 3-0 home win against Panserraikos on Dec. 13, which snapped a three-game losing streak. However, those losses included the 2-0 defeat to AEK and a 3-0 setback at Olympiakos. Their record shows a pattern of strong home results mixed with struggles on the road, where they have lost four of their last five domestic away fixtures.

Despite AEK’s recent supremacy in the head-to-head matchup and overall stronger league position, Interstat’s game simulator projects a tight, low-scoring affair, predicting a 1-1 draw. This suggests a belief that OFI’s attacking resurgence last weekend could pose a stiffer challenge for the AEK backline.

A win for AEK would solidify its position near the top of the Super League 1 table as it prepares for a challenging January schedule featuring clashes with Aris and PAOK. For OFI, securing any points in Athens would provide a significant boost ahead of its own mid-season fixtures, beginning with a home match against Asteras Tripolis on Jan. 11.

The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. local time (1730 GMT) on Sunday, Dec. 21.
