ATHENS, Greece (Interstat) — AEK Athens opened its Super League 1 campaign with a commanding 4-1 victory over Atromitos at Agia Sophia Stadium on Sunday.

Forward Luka Jović led the hosts with two second-half goals. Orbelín Pineda opened the scoring in the 18th minute before Jović struck in the 70th. Substitute Panagiotis Tsantilas scored three minutes later, and Robert Ljubičić added a fourth in the 86th minute for AEK. Atromitos’ lone goal came from a penalty.

The result defied a pregame projection of a 1-1 draw, though statistical models heavily favored AEK. The win gives AEK Athens a perfect start to the domestic season.
