Burnley Edges Wolverhampton in 5-Goal Thriller to Open Season
WOLVERHAMPTON, England (Interstat) — Burnley opened its Premier League campaign with a 3-2 victory over Wolverhampton on Sunday at Molineux Stadium. Substitute Zian Flemming was the star, scoring twice in the first half to give the visitors a commanding lead. His goals in the 14th and 30th minutes were followed by a strike from Marshall Munetsi just before halftime, putting Burnley up 3-0. Wolverhampton mounted a second-half comeback with goals from Jørgen Strand Larsen and Munetsi, but the early deficit proved too large to overcome. The result defied a pregame projection from Interstat that heavily favored a draw or a Wolverhampton win. Jean-Ricner Bellegarde of Wolverhampton received a yellow card in the 35th minute.
