Malmo FF vs Vittsjo GIK
MALMÖ, Sweden (Interstat) — Malmo FF opened its Damallsvenskan season with a chaotic 3-1 victory over Vittsjo GIK on Sunday at a rain-swept Eleda Stadion, a match that featured two red cards and a goal from a goalkeeper in a frantic opening three minutes.
The game, played on Nov. 16, 2025, was effectively decided by a whirlwind start that saw two goals before many in the crowd had settled into their seats. Malmo’s Katariina Kosola opened the scoring just 60 seconds into the contest, firing home from the edge of the box to give the hosts an immediate lead.
The match then took a bizarre turn two minutes later. Vittsjo GIK goalkeeper Moa Ohman, presumably taking a goal kick, sent a long, wind-aided ball deep into Malmo’s territory. The bounce eluded the Malmo defense and skipped past the backtracking goalkeeper, nestling into the net to level the score at 1-1 in the third minute.
The early drama gave way to a physical and ill-tempered affair. Vittsjo GIK’s Julia Tunturi was shown a yellow card in the 21st minute. The match’s complexion shifted entirely just before halftime when Vittsjo’s Ellen Löfqvist was sent off with a red card in the 44th minute, forcing the visitors to play a woman down.
Malmo’s numerical advantage was short-lived. Just eight minutes into the second half, Malmo’s Lisa Klinga also received a red card in the 52nd minute, leveling the sides at 10 players each.
The deadlock was broken for good in the 63rd minute. Defender Nathalie Persson rose highest to meet a cross and powered a header into the net, restoring Malmo’s lead at 2-1. The hosts sealed the victory in the final minutes of regulation when forward Miljana Ivanović added an insurance goal. Substitute Julia Tunturi, who had been booked earlier, provided the assist on the clinching score.
Vittsjo GIK’s Beatrice Persson was shown a yellow card in the 88th minute as the match concluded. The final score defied but largely aligned with pregame projections from Interstat, whose game simulator had projected a 2-1 Malmo win and whose ELO system gave the home side a 95.8 percent probability of victory.
With the result, Malmo FF begins its Damallsvenskan campaign with a record of 1 win and 0 losses. Vittsjo GIK starts its season 0-1. Across all competitions, Malmo FF improved to 4 wins, 3 losses and 2 draws, while Vittsjo GIK moved to 1 win and 1 loss overall.
Malmo FF entered the match following a 1-0 loss to Panathinaikós on Nov. 6. Vittsjo GIK’s previous result was a 3-0 victory over Jitex BK on Sept. 23.
Malmo FF now looks ahead to a congested international schedule, with its next 10 games all outside domestic league play. The club is scheduled to travel to face Nottingham Forest on Nov. 27 and FC Porto on Dec. 11. The 2026 slate begins with a home match against FK Crvena zvezda on Jan. 22, followed by an away fixture at KRC Gent on Jan. 29.
