Feyenoord vs Heracles
Feyenoord Looks to Continue Dominance Over Struggling Heracles
ROTTERDAM, Netherlands (Interstat) — Feyenoord will aim to capitalize on its recent European momentum when it hosts a struggling Heracles Almelo side in an Eredivisie match on Sunday.
The fixture at De Kuip pits a Feyenoord squad coming off a comprehensive 3-0 win over SK Sturm Graz in continental play on Thursday against a Heracles team mired in a poor run of domestic form.
The head-to-head history heavily favors the hosts. In their last meeting on Oct. 19, Feyenoord delivered a brutal 7-0 demolition of Heracles on the road. Current form suggests a wide gap remains. Heracles has lost its last two Eredivisie matches without scoring, including a 2-0 home defeat to Twente on Jan. 18 and a concerning 2-0 loss to second-tier side Jong Sparta in the KNVB Cup on Jan. 11. Their league record shows just one win in their last five attempts.
Feyenoord’s form has been inconsistent but shows higher peaks. Following the 3-0 European victory, they suffered a surprising 4-3 cup defeat to Jong Sparta on Jan. 18. Their recent league outings include a draw with Heerenveen and a loss to Ajax. However, their attacking power was on full display in a 6-1 win over PEC Zwolle in early December.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, Feyenoord is projected to secure a 2-1 victory.
The match is critical for Heracles to halt its slide before a difficult February schedule that includes games against PSV and AZ. Feyenoord, meanwhile, faces a quick turnaround with a trip to Real Betis in Spain just three days after this contest, followed by a crucial league clash at PSV on Feb. 1.
Kickoff is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at De Kuip stadium in Rotterdam.
