UTRECHT, Netherlands (Interstat) — Host FC Utrecht opened the Eredivisie season with a 2-1 victory over Ajax on Sunday, defying pregame projections. Matisse Didden put Utrecht ahead in first-half stoppage time at Stadion Galgenwaard. Ajax’s Sébastien Haller equalized in the 54th minute, but substitute Mika Godts scored the winner for Utrecht just two minutes later. Defender Siebe Horemans recorded an assist for the hosts. The result marked a losing start for Ajax in league play, while Utrecht began its campaign with a win. Interstat’s models had favored Ajax to win, projecting a 57.1% probability for the visitors.
