HERNING, Denmark (Interstat) — Cho Guesung scored in the 17th minute to give Midtjylland W a 1-0 victory over KRC Gent in a Europa League group stage match Thursday at MCH Arena.

The forward also assisted on his own decisive goal, which defied pregame projections that heavily favored the home side. Interstat’s game simulator had forecast a 3-1 win for Midtjylland W, which entered with an 86.9% win probability according to its ELO ratings.

The match was physical, with three yellow cards issued before halftime, including one to Cho in the 47th minute. Substitute Yaimar Medina and forward Júnior Brumado, who each recorded an assist, also received cautions.

The result opens European play for both sides, with Midtjylland W starting its campaign with a win while KRC Gent begins with a loss.
