GROESBEEK, Netherlands (Interstat) — De Treffers opened its Tweede Divisie campaign with a commanding 4-1 win over VV Katwijk at Sportpark Zuid on Saturday.

Midfielder Willem den Dekker led the rout with two second-half goals in a 12-minute span, scoring in the 56th and 63rd minutes. Sebastiaan van Bakel added a third for the hosts in the 68th.

VV Katwijk’s lone reply came from substitute Mukhtar Cabdi in the 75th, but De Treffers sealed the victory with a Ruben van Strien goal in second-half stoppage time. The match grew contentious late, with four yellow cards issued before VV Katwijk’s Justin Bakker received a red card in the 94th minute.

The result exceeded the statistical projection, giving De Treffers a winning start while handing VV Katwijk a season-opening loss.
