GROESBEEK, Netherlands (Interstat) — De Treffers opened its Tweede Divisie season with a commanding 6-2 victory over ACV on Saturday at Sportpark Zuid.

The home side overwhelmed the visitors, scoring six unanswered goals after conceding an early strike. ACV’s Kian Slor opened the scoring in the 13th minute, but De Treffers responded with goals from Steven van der Heijden and Tom van der Werff before halftime. Anis Yadir, Ruben van Strien (twice) and Coen Maertzdorf piled on in the second half. Van Strien’s two goals led the attack.

The lopsided result defied a pregame projection that gave De Treffers an 86 percent chance to win but forecast only a 2-1 scoreline. The win gives De Treffers a perfect start to its league campaign.
