Late Goal Lifts Cameroon Over Mozambique in Africa Cup of Nations Opener
AGADIR, Morocco (Dec. 31, 2025) (Interstat) — Substitute Christian Kofane scored the decisive goal in the 55th minute as Cameroon opened its Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a 2-1 victory over Mozambique on Wednesday at Grand Stade d’Agadir.
Mozambique forward Geny Catamo opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, but Cameroon midfielder Nené equalized just four minutes later. Kofane then netted the winner, finishing with his right foot off an assist from fellow substitute Christopher Wooh. The result defied a pre-match statistical projection that favored the host nation. Cameroon improved to 1-0 in the tournament, while Mozambique fell to 0-1.
