Cameroon Edges Gabon in Tight Africa Cup of Nations Opener
AGADIR, Morocco (Dec. 24, 2025) (Interstat) — Cameroon opened its Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a narrow 1-0 victory over Gabon on Wednesday at Grand Stade d’Agadir.
Karl Etta Eyong scored the decisive goal in the sixth minute, providing an early lead that the Indomitable Lions defended for the remainder of the match. The result defied a pregame projection from Interstat, whose simulator had forecast a 4-0 Cameroon win.
Gabon struggled to find an equalizer and finished with 10 men after Ibrahim Didier Ndong received a red card in the 22nd minute. Cameroon’s Bryan Mbeumo and Junior Tchamadeu also received yellow cards in the physical contest.
With the win, Cameroon improved to 1-0-0 in the tournament, while Gabon fell to 0-1-0.
