CAXIAS DO SUL, Brazil (Interstat) — Juventude opened its Carioca Série A campaign with a 1-0 victory over RB Bragantino on Monday at Estádio Alfredo Jaconi. The lone goal came in the 40th minute from Peixoto, securing the win for the home side. The result defied the Interstat game simulator, which had projected a 1-1 draw, though its ELO system heavily favored Juventude. RB Bragantino’s attack was stifled throughout the match. The physical contest featured four yellow cards, with Juninho Capixaba, Gilberto, Nenê and Gabriel Taliari all being booked. Both clubs now hold 0-0 records to start the Brazilian state competition.
