Lazio vs AC Milan

ROME (Interstat) — Mattia Zaccagni scored in the 80th minute to break a deadlock and lift Lazio to a 1-0 victory over AC Milan in a Coppa Italia Primavera match Thursday at Stadio Olimpico.

The match, a youth competition fixture between the clubs’ reserve sides, was a tight defensive affair decided by a single moment of quality from the Lazio midfielder. The result provided immediate revenge for Lazio, which fell to Milan by an identical scoreline just five days earlier in a league meeting.

The game’s physical tone was set early when Lazio’s Strahinja Pavlović received a yellow card in just the second minute. Both sides struggled to create clear chances for much of the contest, leading to a tense stalemate that appeared headed for extra time.

The breakthrough came late when Zaccagni found space and finished to secure all three points for the hosts. The goal sparked a final push from Milan, resulting in a yellow card for defender Koni De Winter in the 84th minute as the visitors sought an equalizer, but Lazio’s defense held firm to see out the victory.

The outcome aligned with pre-match projections from Interstat, whose ELO system gave Lazio a 97 percent probability to win. However, the game simulator had predicted a 1-1 draw, underscoring the narrow margin by which Lazio claimed the result.

In the context of the Coppa Italia Primavera, Lazio improved its record to one win and no losses. AC Milan, the defending champion in the competition, evened its tournament record at one win and one loss.

The match continued a demanding period for AC Milan, which was playing its fourth game in nine days. Prior to this loss, Milan’s form had been strong, with a draw against ASD Brusaporto on Nov. 30 preceded by three consecutive victories, including the 1-0 win over this same Lazio side on Nov. 29.

Broadening the view to all competitions this season, AC Milan now holds a record of 15 wins, six losses and five draws. Despite the defeat, they remain a formidable side across the Italian youth league structure. Lazio’s overall record moves to seven wins, six losses and four draws, with this victory providing a positive boost.

For Lazio, the win builds on a mixed run of recent results, which included the loss to Milan, a win over Lecce and a defeat to Inter Milan. AC Milan will look to rebound quickly as it faces a schedule heavy with Serie A youth league fixtures.

AC Milan’s next match is against Empoli on Saturday. The team then faces Torino on Monday, followed by games against Sassuolo and Verona before the end of the month. January brings a run of challenging fixtures, including trips to Fiorentina, Como and AS Roma.

Lazio’s schedule resumes Sunday against Bologna. The club then travels to face Parma on Dec. 13, hosts US Cremonese on Dec. 20, and visits Udinese on Dec. 27. Their January slate includes home matches against Napoli and Fiorentina, and away games at Verona and Lecce.
