Barnsley edges Northampton Town 1‑0 at Sixfields
NORTHAMPTON, England (Interstat) — Reyes Cleary scored in the 37th minute Tuesday, lifting Barnsley to a 1-0 victory over Northampton Town in a League One match at Sixfields Stadium.
Cleary’s goal stood as the lone score of the contest despite a simulated projection of a 1-1 draw. Barnsley’s defense held firm against a Northampton side that mustered no goals. Corey O’Keeffe received a yellow card in the 55th minute, and Elliott List was booked in the 87th.
The win improved Barnsley’s league record to 14-16-14 and its overall mark to 16-17-15. Northampton dropped to 9-28-12 in League One and 9-31-12 across all competitions. The Cobblers have lost six of their last seven matches, including a 5-1 defeat at Cardiff City on April 25.
Barnsley, coming off a 2-1 loss at Luton Town on Saturday, snapped a two-game skid. The teams previously played to a 2-2 draw on Feb. 3 in Barnsley. Northampton next hosts Plymouth Argyle on May 2, while Barnsley welcomes Stockport County that same day.
