Doncaster vs Blackpool

DONCASTER, England (Interstat) — Doncaster Rovers scored twice in the final seven minutes to complete a dramatic comeback and defeat Blackpool 2-1 in a League One match Saturday at Eco-Power Stadium.

The victory, secured by substitute Ashley Fletcher’s 88th-minute winner, avenged a 1-0 loss to Blackpool on Dec. 26 and improved Doncaster’s record in the competition to 11 wins, 17 losses and eight draws. Blackpool’s League One record fell to 10 wins, 19 losses and seven draws.

The match defied pregame projections from Interstat, whose game simulator had forecast a 1-1 draw and whose ELO system gave Doncaster a 67.80 percent probability to win.

Blackpool, arriving after a 4-1 midweek defeat at AFC Wimbledon, took the lead against the run of play in the 29th minute. Midfielder Owen Bailey found space at the edge of the area and fired a low shot to give the visitors a 1-0 advantage.

The first half concluded with tension, as Blackpool’s Karoy Anderson received a yellow card in the 42nd minute. The second half saw the disciplinary tone continue, with bookings for Doncaster’s Niall Ennis (60th minute), Blackpool’s Josh Bowler (64th minute) and Blackpool defender Fraser Horsfall (74th minute).

Doncaster’s pressure mounted as the match progressed, and it was finally rewarded in the 83rd minute. Substitute Anderson, who had been cautioned earlier, provided the crucial assist, setting up Hakeeb Adelakun for the equalizer.

The match then turned decisively in a frantic five-minute span. Just five minutes after the leveling goal, another Doncaster substitute made his mark. Fletcher latched onto a ball in the area and scored in the 88th minute to send the home supporters into celebration.

The drama escalated immediately from the restart. Blackpool’s Horsfall, who had been booked earlier, committed a foul and received a second yellow card, resulting in a red card in the 89th minute. Playing with 10 men, Blackpool could not find a second equalizer in the brief remaining time.

The result extends Doncaster’s momentum after a draw with Luton Town earlier in the week, while Blackpool’s struggles continue amid a difficult season across all competitions. Doncaster’s overall record now stands at 16 wins, 18 losses and eight draws. Blackpool’s record across all competitions is 12 wins, 21 losses and seven draws.

Doncaster next travels to face Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday. Blackpool will host Port Vale the same evening.
