Consadole Sapporo vs Oita Trinita
SAPPORO, Japan (Interstat) — Two J2 League sides mired in disappointing campaigns will meet Saturday when Consadole Sapporo hosts Oita Trinita.
The match at Sapporo Dome pits two teams looking to salvage pride in the final stretch of the season. Sapporo (17-21-8, J2 League) sits mid-table, while Oita (9-16-15) is near the bottom, making this a contest with little but regional bragging rights on the line.
Recent form offers little confidence for either side. Sapporo is coming off a crushing 5-2 road loss to JEF United Ichihara Chiba last Sunday. Oita also fell last time out, dropping a 2-1 result at home to Montedio Yamagata.
The head-to-head history, however, heavily favors the visitors. In their two meetings this season, Oita has emerged victorious on both occasions. They secured a 2-0 home win in February and then triumphed in a remarkable 12-goal thriller in June, winning 7-5.
Both teams have struggled for consistency. Oita has managed just one win in its last seven league matches. Sapporo’s form has been similarly erratic, with its defense conceding five goals in a game three times since mid-July.
According to Interstat’s game simulator, the most likely outcome is a 1-1 draw, a result that would do little to lift either club’s standing.
Following this match, Oita will host JEF United Ichihara Chiba on Nov. 22. Sapporo’s next fixture is a road match against Imabari on Nov. 23.
