Preview: Aubagne vs. La Berrichonne de Châteauroux

AUBAGNE, France (Interstat) — Aubagne will look to replicate a dominant victory from last autumn when it hosts La Berrichonne de Châteauroux in a French National 1 match on Friday.

The matchup at Stade de Lattre-de-Tassigny pits a home side seeking consistency against a visiting team desperate to reverse a prolonged slump.

Aubagne (10th place) enters after a scoreless draw at Valenciennes last Friday. Its form has been uneven, with just one win in its last five league matches. That victory, however, was a convincing 3-0 rout of Châteauroux on Oct. 31. Forward momentum at home has been elusive, with Aubagne winless in its last three home fixtures.

Châteauroux (17th place) arrives with momentum from a rare win, having defeated Concarneau 3-1 at home last Friday. That result ended a dismal eight-match winless streak in the league dating to early February. Prior to the Concarneau match, Châteauroux had been shut out in four of its previous five games.

The visitors’ road form is a major concern. They have lost five consecutive away matches, failing to score in four of them. Their last point earned on the road was a draw at Orleans on Feb. 6.

Historical and statistical trends favor the hosts. Beyond the lopsided result in October, Aubagne has lost only once in its last five meetings with Châteauroux. The Interstat game simulator projects a 2-1 victory for Aubagne.

For Châteauroux, the match is critical in its battle to climb out of the relegation zone. Manager Maxence Flachez will hope the confidence from the Concarneau win translates into a more resilient away performance.

Aubagne manager Nicolas Usaï will demand a sharper attacking display from his team, which has scored only twice in its last four home games.

The fixture is the first of a challenging April for both sides. Aubagne faces a trip to Le Puy Foot next Friday, while Châteauroux prepares for a visit from FC Versailles 78 on April 17.
