Gimpo Citizen vs Hwaseong
GWANGJU, South Korea (Interstat) — Gimpo Citizen delivered a commanding performance to open its K League 2 season, decisively defeating Hwaseong 5-1 on Saturday at Gimpo Stadium.
The lopsided victory defied pre-match projections from Interstat, whose game simulator had forecast a 1-1 draw. The data firm’s ELO rating system had given Gimpo Citizen a 63.6 percent probability of securing a win, but the home side far exceeded that modest expectation with an offensive explosion.
The match was effectively defined by the dominant play of Gimpo Citizen’s attacking duo, forward Luis Mina and midfielder Djalma. Mina spearheaded the assault, netting a hat trick with his first goal coming in the 31st minute. Djalma contributed significantly as well, scoring a goal of his own and assisting on another during a comprehensive midfield display.
The game’s tempo was fractured by a flurry of second-half discipline issues. The officiating crew distributed five yellow cards in a 21-minute span, with Hwaseong’s Choe Jaehoon, Kim Minwoo and Leonard Pllana all being booked, followed by Gimpo Citizen’s Park Kyungrok and Djalma.
Despite the stop-start nature of the second half, Gimpo Citizen maintained its offensive pressure. The home side put the result beyond any doubt with two late goals. Defender Ahn Changmin found the net in the 87th minute, and substitute Baek Seungwoo compounded Hwaseong’s misery with a goal in the second minute of stoppage time.
The comprehensive win gives Gimpo Citizen an ideal start to the K League 2 campaign, beginning the season with one win and no losses. Hwaseong, conversely, starts its season in the second division with a record of no wins and one loss. These records also reflect both clubs’ standing across all competitions for the season.
