AGADIR, Morocco (Interstat) — Mozambique delivered a stunning 3-2 upset victory over Gabon in an Africa Cup of Nations group stage match Sunday at Grand Stade d’Agadir.

The visitors defied pregame projections, which heavily favored the home side. Mozambique’s Faisal opened the scoring with a 37th-minute header. Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang equalized just before halftime, but Mozambique reclaimed the lead for good seven minutes after the break on Diogo Calila’s header. Alex Moucketou sealed the win with Mozambique’s third goal in the 76th minute. Gabon’s Alex Moucketou scored a late consolation in the 89th minute.

The result gives Mozambique a winning start in the tournament, while Gabon begins with a loss.
