WELS, Austria (Interstat) — Wels and St. Polten played to a 1-1 draw in a 2. Liga match Friday at HUBER Arena, a result that defied heavy pregame projections favoring the visitors. St. Polten was given a 90 percent probability to win by statistical models. Substitute Timo Altersberger opened the scoring for the hosts in the 49th minute. St. Polten defender Andrija Bošnjak answered with a late equalizer to salvage the draw. The result leaves both teams with identical 0-0-1 records to start the Austrian second division season.
