Madura Utd vs Persebaya Surabaya

PAMEKASAN, Indonesia (Interstat) — Substitute Bruno scored a second-half winner as Persebaya Surabaya secured a 1-0 road victory over Madura United in Liga 1 Indonesia play on Saturday at Stadion Gelora Madura Ratu Pamelingan.

The match, played on Jan. 3, 2026, was decided in the 73rd minute. The decisive play originated from Persebaya defender Mendonça, who delivered an assist from the left flank. The secondary assist came from fellow substitute Mihailo Perović, who had entered the match just minutes earlier. Bruno finished the sequence with a first-time shot, beating the Madura United goalkeeper for the game’s only goal.

The contest was marked by significant disciplinary action, including two red cards. Madura United’s Mendonça, after receiving a yellow card in the 42nd minute, was sent off with a second yellow in the 66th minute, forcing his side to play a man down for the final 24 minutes. Persebaya’s Bruno was shown a yellow card in the 57th minute. The match ended with a second dismissal in the sixth minute of second-half stoppage time, as Persebaya’s Mihailo Perović received a straight red card.

The result defied pre-match projections from Interstat, whose game simulator had predicted a 1-1 draw and whose ELO rating system gave Madura United a 52.4 percent probability of victory.

With the win, Persebaya Surabaya improved its Liga 1 record to six wins, seven draws and three losses, moving to 25 points from 16 matches. The victory extends the club’s unbeaten run in the league to four matches, following a 4-0 win over Persijap on Dec. 28, a 2-2 draw with Borneo on Dec. 20, and a 1-1 draw with PSM on Dec. 6.

Madura United, which was coming off a 5-1 home victory over Semen Padang on Dec. 28, fell to four wins, seven draws and seven losses, totaling 19 points from 18 matches. The loss continues a pattern of inconsistency for the home side, which has now won only one of its last five league fixtures.

Persebaya Surabaya will look to continue its momentum when it hosts Malut United FC in its next Liga 1 match on Saturday, Jan. 10. Madura United will aim to rebound on the same day, welcoming PSIM Yogyakarta to Pamekasan.

The match was the only fixture of the Indonesian top flight scheduled for the date.
